Blue Jay Connection

Updated: Dec 8, 2021

I’ve never been a huge fan of the Blue Jay. I grew up in the mountains and they were so prevalent, they were almost a nuisance. They’re so squawky and obnoxious sometimes! I honestly never noticed until I was an adult that they are actually one of my spirit guides. Now that I know this, they show up for me at the most beautiful and meaningful times.

The first time I realized they were guiding me was at the age of 19. I was in a pretty dark place in my life, going to college but barely passing, and barely paying my bills. Everything just felt hard! Then I met a monk named Narayani, (who is still my best friend to this day!) and learned to meditate, which completely changed the trajectory of my life. Things became so easy and simple. The day I learned to meditate there were a flock of blue jays outside the window that were so loud and rambunctious I remember them pulling me out of my peaceful state and swatting at them on my patio. I thought nothing of it, but it somehow etched into my mind because it wasn’t until 16 years later that I made the “Blue Jay Connection”. I see now why it was so significant, because this meditation practice ended up being the foundation of all of my other spiritual practices and gifts.

Fast forward to this last year. I was working with an amazing spiritual coach, who happened to live a few hours from my mom in Oregon. I really wanted to come out from Colorado to visit, and my coach mentioned she’d have a friend in town that taught Reiki Certification. I had always wanted to learn Reiki, there was something so familiar about it. I booked the trip immediately. The day before I left my mom’s to head to Reiki training, I was sitting out in her back yard facing the McKenzie river, which is so beautiful. Something caught my eye and I walked over to the shore, where I found a Blue Jay feather sticking straight out of the ground at a 90 degree angle. When I picked it up in my hand, I had a vision of the Blue Jays on my porch when I was 19 and first learning to meditate. I then heard a message so clearly…. “The bird represents the separation and the coming together of the heavens/ethers (black) and the Earth (blue) realm”. What I realized is that that is exactly what these spiritual practices do, is they reunite within us the heaven and earth planes, the spiritual and the human.

The Blue Jay has been leading me on the path of my soul, my whole entire life. Now when I see one, I know to stop and pause and to notice what their presence means. They still show up to this day in very significant moments and always bring me a message from the place where my soul exists….. Somewhere between Earth and Heaven, and everywhere in between.
